Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2020

Chennai Super Kings team in IPL 2020.

The long wait is finally over for the cricket fans. The biggest cricketing league in the world is just less than 72 hours away from its commencement. The excitement is soaring among fans as they came closer to the start of the IPL 2020.

This year the sponsors are changed, Dream11 is the new sponsor with a new tagline Dream11 IPL : Ye Apna Game Hai.

Since the conditions have changed this time due to covid 19. The teams have also changed their strategies accordingly. So we are back with the updated squads, preview and analysis of each team.

We will start with the team who are three time champions, almost won in 2019, the most consistent team of the IPL : The Chennai Super Kings

CSK SQUAD :

Batsman: M Vijay, Ambati Rayadu, Faf DuPlesis, Ruturaj Gaikwad

All Rounder : Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Kedar Jhadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Piyush Chawla, Mitchell Santner, Monu Kumar, Sam Curran

Team Chennai Super Kings 2020

Wicket-Keeper : MS Dhoni (C), N. Jagdeeshan

Bowlers : Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, K.M. Asif, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Lungi Ngidi, Josh Hazelwood, R Sai Kishore

The campaign of the CSK hasn’t started the way the team would have wanted.

Despite all precautionary measures they were hit by COVID 19 which caused panic in CSK camp.

One of the most successful batsman of IPL , Suresh Raina and veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh pulled out of the competition citing personal reasons which is a huge setback for CSK.

Raina has been their prolific run-getter in every season. But the USP of CSK is MS Dhoni- The Captain.

MS has been a great asset to the team who knows how to use the limited resources to the fullest potential. He is the x-factor and binding force who always pulls a trick out of his hat in difficult times to take his team over the line.

Shane Watson & MS Dhoni

They have an experienced duo of Shane Watson and Faf DuPlesis who have come good in important matches.

Ambati Rayadu at the top has been CSK’s go to man in recent times.

However, the absence of Raina may hurt them but they have a good option in the form of N Jagdeeshan, who has performed exceedingly well in TNPL at the top of the order.

MS at four can anchor the innings with Kedar and Jadeja to follow up.

CSK also have the services of Dwayne Bravo, who is a brilliant death bowler and can also slog the balls lower down the order. Sam Curran can replace Bravo, in case Bravo doesn’t sustain the 14-match long tournament.

This time IPL is in UAE, which is best suited to spinners and slower bowlers and CSK has plenty of spinners in the bank.

Imran Tahir has been their main wicket taker. They also have M. Santner, who is a very good T-20 bowler and can tonk the ball lower down the order. They have experienced Piyush Chawla and Karan Sharma.

In the spinning conditions of UAE, MS has got many Trump Cards in the form of world class spinners and we all know how good Dhoni is when it comes to utilising his spinners. The CSK squad, however is little lighter on pace bowling.

Deepak Chahar is their main bowler in pace department but due to covid, we might not see him in the initial matches. Shardul Thakur and KM Asif can fill in for Chahar in early-stage.

Lungi Ngidi and Josh Hazelwood are their pace bowling option but with Tahir playing, it will be difficult for them to find a place in playing 11

The depth in the spin department, experience in batting and above all MS Dhoni as skipper makes the case stronger for CSK this time around too.

Let us know in the comment section what is your take on this year’s team CSK.
